39 weeks and 2 days down. Five days to go.

December 27, 2009 is over and we are still busy waiting for Clark. I am 39 weeks and two days pregnant and Friday, January 1, 2010 marks the 40 week milestone. Of course he could come anytime before that, but I'm going to go ahead and guesstimate he won't be here any earlier than Friday and no later than NEXT Friday (January 8). I'm learning patience in a way that I've never had to before, and I guess that's a good thing.

Here's a quick update on what we've been doing aside from waiting for Clark. On Christmas Eve, we attended the candlelight service at church and then headed to the Huwe's house for a pre-Christmas meal. As expected, the food was phenomenal and of course, we played the heck out of some Scattergories. I honestly think I could play that game for hours on end without getting restless. If anybody feels the same way, please come to my house so I can do just that. It keeps me distracted and lets face it, it's just plain fun. Aaron is always fun to play with, but sooner or later he starts getting annoyed and becomes a drag and starts challenging EVERY answer, which means we have to get out the laptop and Wikipedia everything. Example: things in the desert that start with an E. Adrea - what would you say? I said elephant and Aaron didn't agree, so we had to Google it, and indeed there are desert elephants in Africa. Eat it. Or what about things in an airport that start with an E? Apparently estrogen doesn't count either.

On Christmas morning, Aaron and I woke up early and opened our presents. But before that, we made coffee and hot chocolate and turned on some Christmas music and Aaron read the story of Jesus' birth. And then we prayed. And finally we opened presents. Santa brought Aaron a book, a bottle of 18 year old Glenlivet scotch, and two cigars. The book is an autobiography of Ayn Rand, and if you have had even one conversation with Aaron in the past six months, I'm sure you are aware that he read the 1,400 page book Atlas Shrugged. Not only did he read it, but he takes it upon himself to force everyone he knows to read it so he can have somebody to discuss it with. Apparently, Ayn Rand is known for her philosophical and political views and has predicted to the tee the current economical situation the world is in right now. Although she is a proclaimed atheist, Aaron became interested in her writings, so he immediately dug into her autobiography and started pointing out certain sentences here and there that he thought I really needed to know. You can imagine how grateful I was. The cigars and scotch were a symbolic gesture, because Santa knew that in the next week or so, Aaron may need such items to keep from pulling his hair out.

The real talking point here is what Santa brought me. I may have mentioned it on this blog or even on Facebook once or twice, but my camera went MIA on December 2. I'm still going to go ahead and assume Aaron is the reason for the loss, but that's neither here nor there. The only reason I know the exact day is because I couldn't post a new picture for the December Photo Project Day 2. I guess I did a lot of public and private bellyaching about not having one when Clark gets here, because the present I opened on Christmas morning was a super fancy digital camera. And I mean exquisitely fancy. This camera puts all others to shame. Its a Canon Powershot G11 and its simply incredible. I've been busy taking lots of pictures of Aaron and Jake and they are both getting annoyed but they will get over it. And yes, it is a Daniel recommended camera, and when he comes to visit in January he will have to spend a good amount of time giving Aaron and I a tutorial of what all the plus and minus signs mean.

It's so strange not having to use a flash but crazy how much better they turn out when you don't. I have so much to learn about it but so far, I absolutely love it and I can't wait to take Clark's picture as soon as he decides to begin his journey.

Also on Christmas Day, my mom and grandmother drove all the way to Oxford to feed me, Aaron, and the Huwe's I mentioned earlier. They came bearing gifts for Clark and I didn't do a darn thing all day except stuff my face with great food and listen to mom and Memaw smother me in wonderful compliments. This is one of Clark's gifts that he will most certainly get a lot of use out of, I am sure.

Aaron was slightly jealous because even he doesn't own a pair of hunting boots at the moment. Imagine my shock when later that day, he announced he would be purchasing a new pair of boots out of the Cabella's catalog.

On an unrelated note, this is my favorite detail in Clark's room. It was hand carved and painted by my uncle and aunt who live in Birmingham. It was the first thing that went up in Clark's room and it is perfect.

On Saturday, my dad and brother, Drew, made the trek to Oxford to bring me a big fat ham and some more goodies for Clark. This child already has nothing short of everything. It was awesome getting to spend some uninterrupted time with them. It was hard watching them leave. But then I remembered they promised to be here when Clark is born, so all I have to do is call and give them the green light to come back, and that should be any day now so at least I don't have to go long without seeing them again.

That pretty much sums up anything exciting that has happened in the past few days. I've been walking and walking and walking and walking because I hear it can induce labor. That means Jake has been doing the same amount of walking, which probably explains why he constantly looks like this lately.

Surprisingly, at 39.2 weeks pregnant, I'm feeling pretty superb, although I'm overanalyzing every single thing my body does thinking maybe, just maybe, I'm going into labor. Clearly that's silly, because I have yet to go into labor because of a leg cramp or an itch on my foot. All the seasoned mothers out there keep telling me that I will know when its that time, but I'm just not sure how I can "know" when I've never done this before?

My house is so clean right now and as a result, Aaron has been the victim of many dirty looks. He learned the hard way that it is unacceptable to leave a glass unattended or an article of clothing on the floor. I've washed our sheets four times this week and also the guest room sheets. That's a big fat waste of energy and detergent because the guest room bed has not been slept in for months, but for some reason, I just take it upon myself to wash and wash and wash. I'm on top of all the laundry and for once in our lifetime, every single piece of clothing we own is washed and folded and neatly put away. I'm serious when I say once in a lifetime. Speaking of laundry, I had a big laugh at Aaron today when I noticed he was walking around with his pants unbuttoned. I just figured he unbuttoned them when he got home to be more comfortable, but when he told me they had been unbuttoned at church all morning because they don't fit anymore, I pretty much doubled over and Clark had to have been wondering what the heck was going on because I was literally convulsing from laughter. As it turns out, none of his pants fit anymore, so he just takes it upon himself to walk around unbuttoned with a sweater covering the top part of his pants. Be it church, class, Kroger, or friends' houses, he's unbuttoned, but at least he's comfortable. Even his belts are a wee bit tight. Poor guy.

I have a doctors appointment at 1:15 tomorrow and I'm hoping the doc is going to lay out a game plan for Clark's d-day. I do not want to be induced at all, but I also would rather not deliver a 14 pound baby, so Aaron and I have a lot of talking and praying to do about that. We are trying so unbelievably hard to be patient and I've been reciting over and over again Philippians 4:6-7. Every single day I wake up and say out loud "Today is going to be Clark's birthday!" And then I go to sleep saying "Maybe tomorrow will be his birthday." This is not very constructive and I wouldn't recommend it. But I'm so gosh darn ready to meet him. Hopefully after my appointment tomorrow I'll know more about his progress. Or maybe I won't make it to my doctors appointment because I'll go into labor tonight and be at the hospital. See, that's me not being constructive again. Ugh. The anticipation is rough.

"Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus." - Phil 4:6-7

Elephant totally counts! Here are the first few things that ran through my head: eggs (snake eggs, specifically), earth tones, and extraterrestrials (sp?... Area 51 is in the desert)... I also thought to put elephant, though. What did Aaron put??
