Birthday No. 25

My #25 was Sunday and I'd like to take a moment to document the events of the day. And then I will briefly reflect out loud on the fact that birthdays as an adult (if that is in fact what I am now) are so drastically different than back in the olden days as a little girl.

Probably the best part of the day was waking up in my own bed. We have been traveling every single weekend for the past five, and our (or maybe just mine) exhaustion level was rising and rising and reached its peak this weekend. I took at minimum of 50 consecutive naps throughout the weekend and they were completely guilt-free and I woke up only to eat, use the bathroom, and pet Jake. Anyway, on Sunday, we slept in, went to our church that I have missed so badly, and then came back home and took another three hour afternoon nap. Aaron got up from his nap and did yard work while I continued to nap with Jake. We finally got up and ready and went to my favorite Oxford restaurant, Kabuki, for my birthday din-din and then went to a movie, which I wouldn't recommend to my worst enemy. After the movie, we went to Kroger and bought me an ice cream birthday cake and candles. Fun fact: apparently, birthday candles come in packs of 24. I had to buy 2 packs for that one extra candle, and that is a big deal. Also at Kroger, I helped Aaron pick out my birthday card. We came home, lit my candles, ate my birthday cake, and I forced Aaron into writing a note in my birthday card and acted surprised when he gave it to me. We were asleep by 11:00 and that was it.

I don't want anyone to think Aaron is a turd for not getting me a birthday present. Well, I do want everyone to think he is at turd, but not because of the birthday present. Last weekend, Aaron and I road-tripped it to Slidell, Louisiana where we spent Saturday deep sea fishing. Aaron knew that because we were going to be out on the high seas (as he described it), he would go ahead and give me my present early. He got me some super fly Costa Del Mar sunglasses, which are undoubtedly the best sunshades on the market. Being out on the high seas with my Costas made for an awesome day. My favorite part of my present is the simple fact that Aaron picked them out all by himself, and they are perfect. They have glass lenses, which means no matter how hard I try, they will not scratch. This is great news, because my last pair of sunglasses, which were Oakley's, were so scratchy they actually became foggy and I was better off with the sun blaring in my eyes. Anyway, the day on the deep sea was a blast, and I caught a trout.

I am not going to reflect on the differences between adult v. kid birthdays because I have to leave for my yoga class. But I think anyone with a brain can determine that birthdays are not quite the same anymore. Although I'm not going to lie...I absolutely loved my 25th birthday. It was definitely in my top 25. I enjoyed spending the day with Aaron and Jake and getting phone calls from everybody in my family and getting a bazillion facebook messages and text messages and voice mails. My cousin Kristy pointed out that next year, I will have a six month old baby hanging around, which was a very strange thought to me. Cheers to 25 years of my family putting up with me and I raise my proverbial glass to another 100 more years.

I think you intentionally chose the picture where I look like a serial killer. Thanks for that.

P.S. - Your title is "Birthday No. 25." Have you ever wondered why the word "number" is abbreviated as "No."? There's no "o" in "number"!

Aaron, your little comments such as the ones above just illustrate why everybody thinks you're a turd. Thanks for helping prove it.
