Ahoy Matey

About five seconds after Aaron and I announced to the Rice family I was pregnant, Aaron's mom handed me a gift bag and said she had a present for our baby, who at the time was the size of a tic tac. Apparently she had been holding onto it for quite some time, possibly years? I don't know. I'll have to confirm that. It was a blue t-shirt for a 12 month old baby that says "Ahoy Matey!"
This is not just a random t-shirt she thought was cute and bought it for us because we want to be pirates. Nine and a half years ago, Aaron and I were in a canoe and I asked him to do something and he responded with "Aye aye, Matey." I thought this was hilarious for some reason and called him Matey for the rest of the day, and the rest of the week, month, year, and decade. And it rubbed off on him too, because he also calls me Matey, which is really cheesy and often confuses people. Eventually, Matey was shortened to Mate, and thats not cheesy at all, so we're going to be ok.

I remember holding up this t-shirt and thinking it would be an eternity until the baby would actually fit into it. It turned out not quite being an eternity, but nine months. So I just wanted to thank Mrs. Rice for giving Clark his first item of clothing. It was incredibly thoughtful of you and a very special gift. Clark is looking forward to planting a big slobbery kiss on his Gam soon.

Ha ha! Yes, I think it was two years all wrapped and ready. Another funny thing about the shirt is that I found it in a little gift shop in Albuquerque, New Mexico - a completely land-locked state. Very random!
Clark looks very handsome in it. Of course!
