Hey (part 2).

Valentine's Day was very non-cheesy and practical for the Rice family this year. As it turns out, we didn't get each other a single thing, not even so much as a sappy greeting card. My first reaction to the fact that we didn't acknowledge Valentines Day was to worry that my marriage was doomed and that we are already becoming a boring, non romantic couple after only four years. And then I realized I am an idiot and a turd, and that I would not have wanted to spend Valentines Day any different.

We slept in late and went out for breakfast at Sugar Brown, a fantastic local restaurant that serves home cooked breakfast all day long. We each had pancakes, eggs, grits, bacon, sausage and gravy (yes, all of those items), and then we waddled out of there holding our bellies up and trying to not fall over. If one day somebody decides to come visit me, I will most definitely take them to Sugar Brown (hint hint to my family and friends who keep saying they are coming but give me the shaft when the time comes). We spent the afternoon shopping for things we have needed for a long time but just haven't purchased due to a lack of extra dough or time. For example, Aaron bought socks. 24 of them. See, he only wears one sock at a time because he can keep a sock on his prosthetic foot for a month at a time and obviously it won't smell, so this was a very practical purchase. I bought make up and jogging shorts and we both splurged and bought some new awesome tennis shoes. We goofed around all day and walked off the 3,000 calories we ingested at breakfast. And finally, we rented the HBO series Generation Kill and watched three out of the six episodes before crashing.

I'm not dogging Valentines Day by any means. I honestly got pretty mad at Aaron when ten women from my office got flowers on Friday and I didn't get anything. But Aaron gets me "just because" flowers on random days throughout the year and I think I'd rather have those. We always get dressed up and go on dates and I guess we didn't feel like we needed to separate that day from any other day of the year. I dig my husband (most of the time) and he doesn't need a special holiday to win me over.

Church this morning was amazing and the sermon has been on my mind all day. I was struck by how little I know of the Bible. We read from Malachi and I realized I don't have a clue what this book is about and I became so embarrassed and ashamed of myself. I am determined to spend more time reading books of the Old Testament that I rarely touch, like Ezekiel, Zephaniah, and Amos. I don't know why I am so intimidated to read them, but I guess the Bible is not something you are supposed to cherry pick apart.

Tonight, we are off to the second week of our Marriage Course and then I start my new awesome job tomorrow. My goal in my new job, for at least the first couple of weeks, is to make my boss not regret hiring me. This seems impossible considering I don't know anything about the law aside from the one-way discussions between Aaron and I, but whatever. Wish me luck. I won't turn away any prayers.

(Note: I hate coming up with titles, so unless something strikes me as funny or appropriate, I will probably just stick with "hey" as my introduction to my blog posts.)

So we need an update on Day One of the New Job! I am excited for you. And I would come to Oxford and let you take me to the breakfast place if I could, because I LOVE to go out for breakfast. It's almost better than going out to dinner to me.
